The Quest For Ideal Client Communication

How effective is your communication with your customers? I am willing to bet that your one-on-one communication is near to perfect. But what about those other areas of email marketing, newsletters, advertising, and social media? These are the common areas we see client communication lacking.

Lack of Effective Communication

Did you know that over 80% of businesses are not communicating with their clients in a value add way? That is a massive lost opportunity for sales and business growth.

To make sure that your communication is as effective as possible, you need to consider a few things and tailor your communication accordingly.

1: How do you get the large majority of your customers?

Do they walk in off the street, do they visit your website, are they referred to you, do they respond to advertising, or do they come to you by some other method? When you assess how you receive most of your clients, you will know how you should be communicating with them.

If you have a brick and mortar store only, then communicating with someone at the other end of the country is probably not effective. You would do better to focus your efforts locally. However, if you have an online business, digital communication is going to be an effective way to reach your ideal clients.

2: How do you like to communicate with your clients?

We all have different strengths, and your personality type will dictate how you like to communicate with people. Some people thrive in a face-to-face environment, whereas other specialise in written communication.

Play to your strengths, and get help with your weaker areas. That means that if you excel at communicating in person, then hit every networking event in town. If words are your thing, then write a regular blog, market by email, and send a regular newsletter.

Regardless of your strengths, newsletter marketing is vital for growing your business (read all about it here), so if you struggle with words, it is time to consider outsourcing. Newsletter Ready can help with all of those written aspects, so feel free to get in touch with us for more information.

3: Do you have a comprehensive list of your customers?

Knowing who on your mailing list has purchased from you, and who hasn’t, will help you to tailor your email marketing. You might unintentionally offend your existing customers if your communication disregards the fact they have purchased from you before. Or you might lose the chance for a sale if you assume that everyone has purchased from you already. Knowing your list will allow you to create effective communication for customers at each step of the buying journey.
